São Luís

The São Luís center, inaugurated in 1993, is located in the Monte Castelo neighborhood and offers neurorehabilitation programs for spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, and orthopedic problems for children and adults.

The main diagnoses associated with pediatric rehabilitation treated at the São Luís are: cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, spina bifida, arthrogryposis and other orthopedic and neurological disorders.

Adults with brain injury, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s Disease are also included in the rehabilitation programs developed by the teams of specialists in these areas.

In addition to a full-service hospital, this center also has a Community Center that is open to the public, comprising a Library, Toy Room, Creativity Space, and ample lawns and gardens.   At this site, rehabilitation gains a new component by benefitting from integration with the local community.

This center offers the MetaCognitive Dimension (MCD) Program, in which university students majoring in Psychology or Teaching undergo supervised internships, interacting with adolescents and their families.  This exchange foments knowledge and their first exposure to the rehabilitation methods developed by the Network: the SARAH Method.

The SARAH São Luís hospital also promotes the Network’s Traffic Accident Prevention and Education Program, an educational lecture and interactive series for middle and high schools students.
