he SARAH Network of Rehabilitation Hospitals is comprised of nine hospital units located in Brasilia (DF), with a hospital and a International Center for Research and Rehabilitation, Salvador (BA), São Luis (MA), Belo Horizonte (MG), Fortaleza (CE), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Macapá (AP) and Belém (PA).
Each hospital in the Network is a place for perpetuating and perfecting the principles, concepts and techniques consolidated over time by the Brasilia unit, which has rendered it a center of national and international reference.
The Network hospitals are characterized by a careful integration of architectonic concepts and work organization principles with different rehabilitation programs defined according to the epidemiological indicators of the region in which each unit is located. Testimony to this integration is the hospitals’ ample airy spaces, with solariums and gardens designed to humanize the hospital environment and the infirmaries. SARAH employs the system of “progressive care” with excellent use of available resources. This system, implanted for the first time in Brazil, dates back to the origins of the SARAH Project and is characterized by placing the patient in locations of greater or lesser concentration of human and material resources. For example, this concept enabled the creation of a “First Stage” ward for patients who require more intensive care and where the presence of family members is permitted.
The environments were carefully prepared for patients with the diverse medical and therapeutic needs, with swimming pools, gymnasiums for physical therapy, complementary diagnostic exam units, operational service stations, and others.
The SARAH Network hospitals are interlinked by an advanced telecommunications system since 1997. Teams from all over the Network can come together to discuss, the diagnosis of diseases, cases and exams by means of live video conferences; this contributes substantially to multiplying the knowledge of the medical staff. Furthermore, the patient charts can be accessed on-line in the Network’s internal system, and can be done so from any SARAH hospital, thus promoting uniformity of quality at every Network facility as well as permitting continuous co-consultations, discussions and actualization programs.
naugurated on December 6th, 2007, the SARAH/Belém Pediatric Outpatient Center is located in the city's Van-de-cans neighborhood, near the airport.
The Center treats children and adolescents up to 16 years of age with neuropsychological or motor development problems.
Its architecture is characterized by practical, cost-effective solutions and maximizes the use of natural light; it is also specially adapted to the region's climate. The total constructed area measures 3,268 square meters.
The children are treated by a multidisciplinary team according to the rehabilitation concepts created by the SARAH Method for Neurodevelopment. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools for therapy; playgrounds with educational toys for fostering motor and cognitive development; courts for various types of sports and games; and ample areas for rehabilitation activities foster a ludic interaction among the children. This architectural layout also promotes the exchange of information among the rehabilitation team, family members and teachers, thereby facilitating continuity of the rehabilitation process in the home and school settings.
The Pediatric Outpatient facilities are equipped to see up to 2,500 children per month.
The Center is linked to the other 8 units of the SARAH Network via video-conferencing, which permits an ongoing exchange of information and medical procedures between the professionals at SARAH/Belém and those working at other Network hospitals. Electronic patient charts, with high-definition imaging, permit professionals from any SARAH hospital to access information about a patient's status and progress.
